Some 15,000 villagers here stand to benefit from the building of a new road linking Belaga and Bakun under the army’s community programme Jiwa Murni.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced yesterday that the Government would allocate RM62mil for this 37km stretch, which will begin construction in a month’s time.
“With this (road), the people here will feel the difference and benefit from it,” he said when opening a new RM46mil clinic here.
The road was one of the projects in the wish list of the Belaga people that was granted by Najib yesterday.
He is the first Prime Minister to set foot in Belaga town.
The other projects approved are a RM2.3mil bridge over Sungai Linau and a kindergarten in Lusong Laku, the upgrading of SMK Belaga and other old schools and supply of clean water to Belaga town and nearby longhouses at a cost of RM35mil by October next year.
On the new 20-bed Belaga clinic, he said it would be equipped with an X-ray machine and he would see to it that the clinic also had at least one full-time doctor.
Earlier, Najib said the Government would continue to help the rural communities particularly in Sarawak and Sabah.
“My personal satisfaction is when I get to help the people in the rural areas and know that they are satisfied with the effort made.
“My coming here today is to help the people of Belaga,” he told a cheering crowd.

Nice improvement in your place. I hope they pursue the plan ASAP. More people will benefit for the project.
Saya faham tu mandak..
Same situation here, I don't know when will the 'orang bertanggungjawab' upgrade the road...
I think, we been waiting like ages to wait for it to happen!
Cara utk menghilangkan stress time jalan di jalan grabel, ko nyanyi lagu, "Grabelela-lela-lela-lela!" ikut tune Aspalela.
Anyways, it sure is a good improvement that benefits everybody who uses that road later. :)
Good news for people over there make life them better :-)
