Have you been to Kota Marudu?

First of all, thanks everyone for supporting my blog. I will try to take all your comment and advice as an encouragement for me to keep on blogging. I never knew blogging will be this fun. Hehehehehe.... I have been talking about many things but I forget to talk about my Hometown; Kota Marudu. Many local called it as bandau or mandau. Exactly, i also don't know what that means. Hehehehe.... But don't worry, you can find everything in Internet nowadays. If you know how to look.

I search for the Meaning of Kota Marudu or Bandau via Google and i found this information inWikipedia. Most website also have the same information:
Kota Marudu was formerly known as 'Bandau', which derives from the Kadazandusun world 'Mondou'. According to the local folklore, mondou is believed to be a buffalo-like creature feared by the local residents. The district was eventually re-named 'Kota Marudu', after a famous fort built by the famous local warrior Shariff Osman on Marudu Bay to protect the area from British colonization.

Source: Wikipedia.
Kota Marudu is a small district near Pitas district. Located in the northern region of Sabah, bordered by the districts of Kudat, Kota Belud, Pitas and Beluran. If you arrived to Kota Kinabalu, you need at least 2 hours drive to Kota Marudu and the journey will be around 130 km. To anyone who never been to Sabah before, you will found most of the hill road over here and the best vehicle if you want to rent one is a 4WD car. Its not hard to travel alone going to my town. What you need is just a map and asking people around if you lost. Most people over here is friendly. Just don't travel at night since you cannot see anything. Most of the road going to my place will have no road light. You most probably will be bumping with livestock at night to.

Along the way to Kota Marudu, you can see many stall selling all sorts of local fruits, craft and vegetables. Just don't forget to stop for jagung bakar (grilled corn?) because Kota Marudu are also famous for its corn or maize. Every year, a maize festival will be held at Kota Marudu to promote tourist coming to my hometown. Maize or corn is one of the most important agriculture products in this district. This year, the festival will be held on 2nd and 3rd Oktober 2010. Some of the activities will be maize festival beauty pageant, cooking competition, traditional sports and some cultural performance. Its hard to see any tourists from other countries in my hometown.

I think that for now. I don't want to boring you with my boring town. Will continue the story later.

PS: Exactly, I don't have taken any picture of the actual town yet. Hehehehehe....

Chayo-chayo....

I'd love to read more about where you came from! The only places I have to post about are the small Native American towns I live in now, outside of Tulsa. Recently, the only thing anyone on the web can associate Tulsa with is HANSON. *eyeroll*

Your corn festival sounds much like our Harvest Moon Festival; it's held on the first full moon of the fall (harvest) season, and everyone gets to show off their crops and harvests. It's a really nice reason to get together and socialize with the neighbors.
